Bank of Beirut proudly sponsored the National Public Speaking Competition organized by the English-Speaking Union (ESU), held at the Lebanese American University (LAU) Beirut campus, bringing together outstanding university students from across Lebanon in a celebration of thought, expression, and dialogue.
This year’s theme, inspired by Yosa Buson’s haiku “The light of a candle is transferred to another candle — spring twilight,” beautifully reflected the spirit of the competition: the passing of ideas, inspiration, and knowledge from one voice to another, and from one generation to the next.
The event offered students a meaningful platform to articulate their perspectives, engage with complex ideas, and demonstrate the enduring power of language and public speaking in shaping societies and inspiring change.
At Bank of Beirut, we believe that empowering young minds begins by giving them the confidence and the space to speak, question, and lead. Supporting
initiatives that nurture intellectual curiosity, communication, and leadership remains an essential part of our commitment to investing in the future of
Lebanon.
We extend our sincere congratulations to the winner Vahe Melkonian, to our first and second runners-up, Sarah Ghazal and Yara Arnaout and to all participants for the remarkable level of talent, insight, and authenticity reflected throughout the competition. Each speech illuminated a unique perspective and served as a reminder of the exceptional potential carried by Lebanon’s youth.
A special note of appreciation goes to the English-Speaking Union, the Lebanese American University, and the dedicated organizers whose efforts continue to sustain and elevate this distinguished national platform year after year. Bank of Beirut proudly supporting the voices, ideas, and leaders shaping tomorrow.
