Under the High Patronage and in the presence of the President of the Lebanese Republic, H.E. General Michel Aoun, Bank of Beirut Chairman – CEO  Dr. Salim Sfeir donated 10 fully equipped ambulances to the Lebanese Red Cross to be used for life-saving and emergency missions throughout Lebanon. The ceremony took place in the front yard of the Presidential Palace in Baabda, where H.E. President Aoun and Dr. Salim Sfeir handed over the keys of the ten ambulances to the President of the Lebanese Red Cross Dr. Antoine Zoghbi and to the Secretary General Mr. Georges Kettaneh, in the presence of officials and media figures along with representatives from both institutions.

The President of the Republic thanked the Lebanese Red Cross for their countless sacrifices and humanitarian activities and for risking their lives for the sake of humanity. He promised that the victims of the Red Cross killed while performing their duties will be considered as “martyrs”. This would be a draft law to be presented to the specialized committees and it will have the President’s total and determined support.

This initiative comes as a continuation of the Key partnership established between Bank of Beirut and the Lebanese Red Cross, whereby the Bank has launched several initiatives to encourage its customers and other individuals to support the Lebanese Red Cross.

Dr. Sfeir said: “We are proud today, in the presence of H.E. President of the Republic and with his blessing, to give back to the Red Cross a small part of what it deserves, and to contribute to the support of the emergency response operations of this humanitarian organization all across Lebanon. This wouldn’t have been possible without the contributions of Bank of Beirut customers in particular whom we thank for their generous donations and for taking part in our “banking for good” campaign. I do also extend my thanks to Bank of Beirut family for their dedication and commitment to this humanitarian cause and for the concerted efforts they have deployed to make this initiative come true.”     

Commenting on the initiative, the LRC President, Dr. Zoghbi thanked the President of the Republic for sponsoring this event, extending his gratitude to Dr. Sfeir for mobilizing Bank of Beirut family, customers, branch managers, staff and friends for the success of this project. The Organization wouldn’t be able to reach its goals, he concluded, without the help of generous people who strive for the interest of the society.”
