Byblos Municipality and Bank of Beirut celebrated the inauguration of a monument by the prominent Lebanese sculptor Rudy Rahme, paying tribute to the City of Byblos, the cradle of the Alphabet.
The unveiling ceremony was held in the presence of Jbeil’s ‘Kaymakam’, Mrs. Najwa Soueidan, LAU President, Dr. Joseph Jabra, former Byblos Head of the Municipal Council Mr. Ziad Hawat, along with the recently elected Head of the Council Mr. Wissam Zaarour as well as members of the Municipal Council. Bank of Beirut Chairman-CEO, Dr. Salim G. Sfeir was represented by Mr. Georges Aouad, Head of Consumer Banking Division, along with executive officers from the Bank. Guests included prominent business figures from the region as well as customers of the three Bank of Beirut branches located in the Jbeil area.
Mr. Wissam Zaarour delivered a speech highlighting the bonds between Jbeil and Bank of Beirut who was the main supporter of the Municipality following the nomination of the city as the Arab Tourism Capital. The Head of the Municipal Council pointed out that the Bank has been a prime contributor to major activities and developments of the city’s infrastructure and ameliorating it to become the most exquisite image of Lebanon.
Representing Bank of Beirut Chairman Dr. Salim Sfeir, Georges Aouad - Head of Consumer Division said: “Immersed in culture and history, tonight, Jbeil embraces Bank of Beirut and both align around common objectives, including the propagation of culture, serving the community, promoting tourism and upholding Lebanon across the world. Jbeil holds a special place in our hearts, he said, and as the Bank of the Capital, we are very proud to partner with the Arab Tourism Capital, he continued, praising the efforts of both the former and present Heads of the Municipal Council, adding that this chef-d'oeuvre crowns the partnership between both the Municipality and Bank of Beirut.”
With fervent words, Sculptor Rudy Rahme, stated that his sculpture represents the letters of the alphabet sustained on the walking rocks of times as a message of love and knowledge to the entire universe.
