Companies have been working towards aligning their business and strategies with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and integrating the SDGs into their strategies and plans. Bank of Beirut has become a member of the United Nations Global Compact with the purpose of abiding all internal sustainability-related initiatives to the 10universal principles that fall under the umbrella of the 17 UN sustainable Development Goals.

In this regard, we endorsed these goals and mainstreamed them in our business by adopting the development, implementation and disclosure of responsible and sustainable corporate policies and practices.

As a sustainable corporation, we seek to embrace, support and enact within our sphere of influence, a set of core values in the areas of human rights, labor standards, the environment and anti-corruption. In line with our CSR and Corporate Shared Value strategy, and further to joining the Global Compact Network Lebanon, Bank of Beirut committed to further working on SDG13 by launching a Recycling program aimed at raising awareness and engaging the community in this concern. The initiative launched with our business partners ensures sorting bins for plastic and paper are placed at various companies along with full related tutorials and tips facilitating the recycling process. Moreover, a collection circuit has been established whereby all recyclables are collected and sent to l’Ecoute NGO recycling plant.

This initiative, aligned with the Global Compact network’s agenda, is set to let us increase adaptability and resilience; ensure businesses engage in regenerative value creation; cultivate partnerships; promote co-innovation with stakeholders; and establish performance indicators to evaluate the achievement of its sustainability goals in addition to generating decent green jobs that contribute to climate mitigation and adaptation, poverty eradication and social inclusion.
