Activities and Services

The Inter-Arab Investment Guarantee Corporation is an international regional
organization with the membership of all Arab countries. It commenced its
operations in mid-1975 and has its main seat in the State of Kuwait.

Services rendered by the Corporation to Arab businessmen, investors,
exporters, contractors, and financiers:


1) The Corporation provides insurance coverage for Arab investments operating on commercial basis,
in any Arab country except the investor’s own country, loans provided by Arab financial institutions or Arab
foreign financial institutions to an Arab investment project for a term
exceeding three years. Contractor’s
equipment used in the execution of projects in an Arab country is also insurable.


Eligible Investors

The Corporation’s Convention makes it clearly explicit that to qualify for its guarantee, an investor should
either be an individual who is a national of a member Arab country, or a juridical person whose share capital
is substantially owned by one or more of the member countries or by their nationals and whose principal
office is located in one of the member countries. In this regard, the eligible investor cannot be a national of
the host country in which the investment is made.


Risks covered under the Investment Guarantee Scheme


A) Expropriation and Nationalization.
B) Inconvertibility.
C) Wars and Civil Disturbances.

Compensation

  • In case of realization of risk A or C mentioned above, the Corporation will compensate the insured party
    for 85% of the incurred losses.
  • If, instead, risk B is realized, compensation would be 90% of the incurred losses.

2) The Corporation provides insurance coverage for credits pertaining to inter-Arab trading transactions.
